I like the looks of the snow on the mountain mixed with the lilacs and hydrangeas, but are they harmful?

Snow-on-the-mountain refers to two different groundcovers, both of which can be aggressive. However, I don't think a shrub such as lilac or hydrangea would suffer. Those groundcovers are more likely to overtake annuals or perennials.
