Will magnolia buds bloom if I cut them and place in water?

Will magnolia buds bloom if I cut them and place them in water? If so, how do I force them open. I live in East Tennessee. Trees are blooming now but I need some fresh flowers for an arrangement. I cut a few buds and placed the in water but nothing is happening.

Thank-you, Diane

Yes, you can clip your Magnolia branches and bring indoors to force open.
They will have needed to have had the normal winter cooling down period of at least 6 weeks.
Cut the branches and place in clean water at room temperature.
