Removing blooms does not affect next year’s plant. Think of it as a form or early “dead-heading”; you are keeping the plant from expending energy on making seeds. Making seeds is taxing for a plant so by removing blooms, plants focus on rebuilding the roots. Peonies are gorgeous and have a wonderful smell. Who can resist bring some indoors!
