Kill Oats Without Harming Tomato Plants

Will anything kill oats without harming tomato plants? To prevent blight on tomato plants, we were advised to spread straw on the ground. That has worked, so far, but now we have a healthy crop of oats growing out of the straw between the tomato plants. We have always prided ourselves in having a weed-free garden, so to us this is unsightly. Do we just have to live with it?

Interesting question, since I am having a similar problem with wheat from our straw. We hoed the stalks down, covered the bed with a layer of cardboard and also used several layers of black and white newspaper when we ran out of cardboard and re mulched the beds. Bought straw from a different supplier. We did that in June and so far it’s working well.
