Will a Chaste Tree grow in a large planter/container?

We live in Northern California in area with hot summers and occasional freezes in winter. The soil in our yard is poor and I'd like to plant a Chaste Tree in a large container for privacy and color. Will it grow in these circumstances

Chaste tree, Vitex will grow in San Anselmo but will likely suffer frost die-back in winter and grow back in spring. If you want dependable year round foliage, choose some other plant.
