Wild Wisteria

We have a 2000 sq. foot area in the back of our yard covered with wild wisteria vines. Aside from the fact that the wisteria never blooms, they are spreading into the cultivated area of our yard and close to one of our out buildings. We don’t want to use burn out or another poison and have been told that if a back hoe tries to dig it up, we are likely to lose some of the large beautiful trees nearby. Right now, we are weed wacking them down every few weeks, but they seem to flourish with these prunings. Any suggestions are welcome.

If it is a large plant, you can try using a sawzall (reciprocating saw) and literally try cutting the stumps of the plant out of the ground by cutting through the roots . I have used this method successfully on several trees and shrubs. The only issue is that the plant is likely to grow back from any root left in the ground. It will take it some time to build back up, but without using an herbicide, it will come back. Using the saw will simply greatly diminish the plant, but that sounds like it may be enough for your needs.
