Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comHi I’m a beginner when it comes to hydroponics systems and I was wondering if I could use wick system for plants like okra. I’ve heard that wick systems are not good for large plants as they use a good amount of water and nutrients. I’ve also heard okra loves warm weather and doesn’t really need a very moist substrate.
If not, what other cheap hydroponic system do you think I could use which can support the large plant?

Although the okra is native to Africa, and does prefer a hot, dry climate, this won’t stop you from being able to do this hydroponically. If you are unfamiliar with a hydro system, then it is best to do some research before delving into this.
Instead of a wick system, I believe if you used a Deep Water Culture you will have better results. The most simple systems consist of a bucket, a mesh lid, which you can get easily, a substrate such as hydroton, an air pump with air stone, and some liquid fertilizers. This is, by far, one of the easier set-ups with less mess involved.
I used to work at a hydro shop in Tennessee. I will give you the information, and he will usually drop-ship to anywhere in the US. He is, also, very knowledgeable and will be glad to assist you with the system as well.
