Q.Why is my RicRac cactus growing like this?

Zone 11563 | Anonymous added on May 9, 2020 | Answered

I had a huge ricrac cactus. A lot of it suddenly died over the summer. I was able to save some parts and replant them. The parts that I saved are growing strangely. Please see the pictures. It’s been like that for about 2 years. It never grows the deep “ric rac” signature features. It grows wavy at best. Please help!

Make sure you are meeting its needs. It needs a soil similar to Orchid mix, or a cactus mix with a little compost added. Go easy on the watering; let it dry out between waterings. It may need more humidity. Also it only needs fertilizing in spring.

Your last photo looks like an aerial root. I included info about aerial roots.
