Why do the fruits drop before ripening

Why do the fruits of our fig tree rot and drop before they ripen? Our fig tree is in our front lawn exposed to sun. The trunk diameter is about 10 to 12 inches and about 12 feet high. Its fruit is green then turns yellow. Once the fruit turn yellow, it drops. When fruit is opened, the inside is dry and color violet to brown. What can I do about it?
