why do my tulip flowers have no stems

This is the second year since planting. The flowers are very large but they have no stems.

Tulips will do this if they are stressed. The stress can come from many sources, from not enough chill time to unusually warm spring weather to lack of water or nutrients.

Take a look at the conditions the tulips are growing in and try to alleviate the stress on them. This will help them grow longer stems.
