why do my gladiolus flowers fall over when blooming

Every year my glads and dahlias get so heavy they fall over before or during blooming. Other than staking, is there something else I can do? Am I not planting them deep enough or is it the nature of these plants to be top heavy?

These plants have been bred to have large, showy flowers. Unfortunately this means that frequently the stems aren’t strong enough to support those gorgeous blooms. The fact that they are large and gorgeous means that you’re taking care of them well. Have no fear, and make staking part of your regular gardening routine for these.
