Q.While Growing Potatoes In Straw Or On Straw

Zone Tulsa, OK 74115 | lewesler added on June 6, 2020 | Answered

While growing potatoes in straw or on straw, I planted my seed [potatoes on the top of straw bales, and put manure/top soil mix in the holes, placed the seed potatoes on that, and then covered them up with more of the manure/top soil mix. My question is do I water just where the potatoes are planted or do I water the entire area to make sure there is sufficient moisture?

You will water the entire area, equally. Just make sure that it is not compost, alone. That will burn the forming roots and kill small plants. Make sure that the compost is mixed in with top soil, or potting soil, so that the nutrient content is not too high for small plants.
