Which Plants Would Best Suit As A Screen?

Question

We have a gravel driveway alongside our lawn without any border. We would like to plant a screen to hide the parked car, but only have a narrow strip to plant as space is really tight, approx 12″ wide. Reluctant to put up fencing or trellis as this could damage the car door. Garden is northeast facing and partly shady, sheltered from wind. Ideally evergreen. Any suggestions?
