Q.Which Avocado Tree

Zone 2077 | Anonymous added on June 22, 2025 | Answered

We have a large container 1150 X 960 X 570 deep. Would this be suitable to grow an avocado? (Photo) Yes, it will need more drainage holes. What variety would you suggest for Hornsby Heights 2077? Container would be on a North fence. (Photo – where chairs are.) We also have a spot which could have a second tree – it is about 2 m from a West facing 8 foot fence. (Photo – Fig tree covered by net to be removed). The tree would get some east sun, and lots from the north. It would be about 11-14 m away from the container tree, depending on where we put the container. I have looked at Secondo, but would like some guidance please. We would like mature tree(s). Kind regards

The container looks too wide but not deep enough if you are looking for mature trees. It would need the most sun possible - the west-facing location sounds like the best. If you have a south facing location, that is even better.

You might want a more cold tolerant avocado tree, then you can plant it in the ground. Below is information about cold tolerant varieties.
