Where Did My Zucchini Flowers Go?

While weeding today around my zucs, I noticed that my few zuc flowers were gone and the buds that would have soon been flowers, had been “nipped off. ” Can someone tell me what happened? There were no flowers on the ground around plants. There are just “stems” where there should be buds or flowers! Should I replant or wait?

This is normal. Early on, the plant has more male flowers than female flowers and the male flowers fall off. They will look like they were cut off and do fade quickly to brown, so may not be noticed. When female flowers come in a bit later, then you will see fruit.
