Using salt as a weed killer is not usually recommended. It can leave your soil unhospitable for a long time. If you are using it in an area that you don't want anything to grow in, ever, it can be effective. It is not as fast acting as boiling water. Salt works by dehydrating the plant so it will take a few days. Here is more:
