When to Transplant a Gardenias

I just bought a gardenia plant. I live in South Africa, so now it’s winter. I need to transplant it to the garden. I was reading that the best time to transplant it is in fall. But the problem is that it’s already blooming, so if someone can help me, I’ve been struggling with gardenia since I moved to South Africa. Can I transplant it now? Or rather wait till next year?

If your night temperatures are staying above 40*F., you can plant it now. Those temperatures won’t affect the buds. If you have a sudden cold snap below that, protect with fabric.
