Q.When To Cut Hydrangeas After Cold Snap?

Zone Leonia, NJ 07605 | Anonymous added on November 24, 2020 | Answered

We in the northeast had a cold snap and all of the hydrangeas have turned brown. Should I cut them back now or wait?

I would wait. Trimming now might cut off the buds for next year if your hydrangea blooms on old wood such as the macrophylla (mopheads). Also, the brown flower heads add winter interest to the garden.
