When should I see the Calla Lilies start to come up, and what will the starts look like?

A friend gave me several bulbs of calla lilies from her garden and I planted them in Sept. when she gave them to me. I thought I would start to see them come up? We had a mild winter and I covered them with mulch. What can I do to ensure they grow?

How deeply did you plant the calla lily? Calla like summer weather and are not a fan of cool soil so it will stay dormant until the soil warms down to the depth you planted. If you planted only several inches deep, expect to see them by May in the PNW. What first appears is a green shoot going straight up. It is actually a leaf that is tightly rolled. Keep the soil moist but not wet. When the dry season hits, calla lily will go dormant if not provided with adequate moisture. [1]…/calla-lily/growing-calla-lilies-and- care-of-calla-lilies.htm
