Q.When & How To Prune A Lilac
We have a tall “Beauty of Moscow”, double large panicles. The bush is about eight to ten feet tall, but has a thin, ‘see-through’ canopy. Help!

It's best to prune right after flowering because they set buds in summer for next spring. It is getting kind of late now to prune but you can examine the stems and see if buds are forming.
In late winter or early spring, before new growth starts, you can prune. Here is how:
