Q.When growing tomatoes, should the soil be acid or sweet?

Zone Catskill, NY | mariac37 added on March 16, 2012 | Answered

I would like to plant tomatoes this season, but I don’t know how to prepare the soil. I was thinking of using lime to sweeten the soil, but I wasn’t sure if tomatoes grow well in that kind of soil. If they need acid soil, please provide the necessary information.

Check your soil conditions and soil pH, which should be in the 6 to 6.5 range. Also, the soil should consist of organic matter, usually in the form of compost or well rotted manure, with sufficient amounts of fertilizer and moisture.
