When deadheading my Red Trumpet lily, should I just pinch off the spent blooms, or cut the tall stalk off at the base of the plant?

The lily is about 3 ft tall.

Generally, it is advised to cut the flower head first, and then the stalk as it decays.

It won’t hurt at all should you decide to cut off the whole stalk, though.
