Q.When can I uncover grape vines

Zone 4 | mdlinds added on March 20, 2015 | Answered

I have overwintered grape vines in central MN. I am wondering when I can remove the mulch and get the vines out again. Winter is likely over here in regards to freezing temps, but we can and will likely have snow and light frosts at night for upwards of two months possibly.

I would certainly uncover your grapevines now. My suggestion would be to keep either some burlap or landscape cloth available to gently cover them again, if the temperatures dip below 30 degrees for any length of time.
I do this myself for my plants that began budding and growing, but may be harmed if the temps drop to low.
Remember to uncover them as the temps warm. I'm also in MN...spring can be tense in the garden!
Best of luck.
