What’s Wrong With This Shrub Please?

This seems to have died in the mid section – does anyone know what it is and do I need to cut the scorched looking parts out please?

This is a common infection with Pyracantha shrubs. Oddly enough, it shares a similar name with the Firethorn Shrub. It is called Fire Blight.
