magnolia stopped blooming

Question

What would cause a magnolia to stop in the middle of blooming? I live in Chicago, no hard freezes. This tree was planted in 1946 and has bloomed every year.

I think your magnolia may have just hit the pause button in light of the cold spring weather we have been having.

Also, delayed or incomplete blooming can be attributed to winter injury:
