what was the tree

when I was a child,65 years ago, a neighbor had a strange tree that I liked very much It looked like it was grafted to the top of another tree. It was all twisted on top and looked like a mulberry with no berries. What was it ? it was perhaps about 15 feet tall name the tree and tell me where to get one
