Q.What vines grow well against a brick wall or is it too hot?

Zone Ontario, Canada, zone 5 | greenleaf added on September 23, 2014 | Answered

My clematis died and I thought it was due to winter-kill, but I was told that it is too hot to grow it next to a brick wall. Do you have any suggestions?

If the roots are well-mulched, I don't think growing next to a brick wall is a negative. Much more likely to be damaging are issues of moisture, disease, incorrect pruning, and wrong variety for your area.
