Most vegetables will not tolerate soil near black walnut trees but here are some vegetables that are tolerant of black walnuts: Lima beans, Snap beans, Beet, Sweet corn, Onion, Parsnip. There is also the threat of having the tree’s toxic chemical, juglone, being abosorbed into the veggies, which could allergic reactions in sensitive people. The toxic effects of a mature black walnut tree can extend 50 to 80 feet. That said, you could try your hand at growing any of those listed or you could install a raised bed for growing any others. This would help keep them off the toxic soil.
