What variety of fig tree produces figs with a sugary skin

My friend once had a fig tree that when ripe the figs had a sugar crystal like skin and you could eat them straight from the tree. They were very sweet and moist.

A popular sweet variety is Celeste, which is considered a dessert fig. Perhaps this is what he had.
