what type of tree/shrub is this?

When we moved in about four years ago, we cleaned all the weeds and poison ivy out of a small shrub. It has since flourished into this (see photo). This year it started producing green apples all over, and some small red berries at bottom. Are these apples edible? Is this actually an apple tree (doesn’t really look like one…Lol) Thank you for your help! 🙂

It would appear you do have an apple tree that likely died at one point and reverted back to the root stock.
It is common for a Dwarf Apple tree to be grafted onto the root stock of another fruit tree.

It appears that I’m also seeing Rose Of Sharon flowers.
You appear to have a couple of different things going on here!

Here is a link about Rose Of Sharon.
