What type of seed is this?

I just picked this up from the ground in a garden, and I want to know what this seed is. It fell from a tree.

There are many trees that drop a cottony seed.

If you can take a picture of the tree, it's leaves, and give any other information that would help; such as your growing zone we can help you identify the tree and seed.
