Q.What trees are best for clay soil

Zone Spaiin | trish.huescar added on July 9, 2012 | Answered

We live in an area of red clay soil and want to plant a tree in the garden. Our climate can be extreme with very hot summers and very cold winters with frost and snow. What sorts of trees would be suitable for this climate and land type?

Few plants can tolerate compacted clay soil; therefore your best bet is to amend it. Here is an article that you may find helpful: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/how-to-improve-clay-soil.htm
