Q.What Tool Can I Use To Trim My Red Trumpet Vine?
Since the vine is stringy, I want a tool that will not bind up. The vine is 40 years old. I hired a tree trimmer one time to cut it back. He grumbled the whole time due to his error in his time and wrong tools.

Your vine likely needs renovation pruning if it has not been cut back every year. If it is a big tangle, it is best to cut it to the ground this fall. Or, you can leave up to 8 inches of growth. You could use a pruning saw or just a pair of hand pruners for that job. Long handled pruners probably would get stuck. If you have electric hedge clippers, those should work, too.
