What to grow in a mini greenhouse outside

We live in South Africa and it is currently summer with temperatures in the 30 Celsius range. We planted some herb seeds in containers a couple of weeks ago, and these came up very quickly. They, unfortunately, did not make it. We had the mini greenhouse positioned to only get 3 hours of morning sun, yet it was still too hot and humid. Apart from moving the greenhouse elsewhere, what other tips could you give us? – i.e. What edibles would be best to either grow or start in the greenhouse/best season to grow what, etc.?

Thanks for the help.

It sounds like your first problem is lack of ventilation/cooling. I don’t know exactly the climate in your area, but perhaps in the summer you might need something more like the “shade house” that we often use here in Florida. These can be very simple, a frame to hold up a shade cloth roof, totally open on the side. You might want to think about fixing your green house so that you can open the sides in the hot weather.
Like anything else, using a greenhouse does require a bit of experimentation and research. Here’s a listing of a number of articles on greenhouses that you might find useful: http://www.gardeningknowhow.com/special/greenhouses/ [1]
