ll have roots but these on the side I assume just need cutting off? I have two main plants, #1 has let out growth from the centre after winter cut down plus pups from below and side. #2 has no new growth after winter cut down but has pups from its side. So which do I cut off and which do I leave ???

Pups grow from the base of the plant or the rhizome. Select offshoots to remove that are more than 1 foot tall, preferably, 2 to 3 feet tall. Smaller ones probably won't survive. Do not remove any pups till the main plant has at least four offshoots to maintain the plant. Yours don't look like they are ready to remove yet.
