Q.What to do if an apple tree didn’t grow leaves this year? It’s probably 25 years old

We buried my cat under it last July and planted a cat mint plant near the trunk base. The branches don’t seem to be dead or brittle. Can it be saved?

There can be several reasons for this, including fluctuating weather. It is probably not connected to what you've planted around it. There is the issue of digging below the tree. You may have damaged a lot of roots that are trying to regrow.

You will want to do a scratch test, to make sure it is alive, and may need to contact an arborist. Here's an article that should help:
