Q.What soil mixture is best for hot peppers?

Zone Upstate South Carolina | mfarrar29 added on November 3, 2015 | Answered

I’m a beginner gardener. My first year of gardening was this year in the summer months and I used a raised bed. I didn’t test my soil, and I don’t think I had the right soil for my peppers, and my garden was just completely horrible. All of my plants died. I had too much disease, and it’s stressful. So next spring I plan on growing Cayenne long slim, Jalapeno, Serrano, and Hot Banana peppers in raised beds. Would 50% top soil and 50% compost be alright? Also, what pH should my soil be for next spring? Thanks.
