What should I plant in 3-inch planters?

I am considering getting a set of 9 3-inch planters that interlock and having a display of plants by my front door. Soil drainage is not a problem. I can have it in mostly sun or mostly bright shade.

Some herbs such as thyme, basil, oregano, and mint do well in small pots. Succulents like jade plant and haworthia would do well. Leaf lettuce, wheatgrass, and ornamental clovers such as Oxalis species are some other possibilities.
