What should I do about my fig tree

My big mature fig tree that I’ve had here for years is not producing leaves at the top of the tree. The bottom is producing plenty of green leaves roughly 6ft high. What should I do? Trim off the top or leave it till after it fruits?

I think the best thing is to prune the dead and weakened branches out of the top of the tree. Don’t worry about fruit too much this year; you want the tree to put its energy into growing new branches for the future.
