pieces hanging down from fern

What are the pieces hanging down from the fern, straggly like? Should they be cut off? It is hanging on the east side of the house, partial shade.

What kind of fern do you have? If it’s a boston fern, I think you might be referring to the long, stringy, leafless runners that sometimes dangle down from the plant. Basically, it means your fern is due for a trim and this article will tell you how:
