Q.What Is Wrong With My Plants?

Zone 60148 | Vince21494 added on May 25, 2020 | Answered

I have planted quite a few plants but this is my first time having my own garden. My cucumbers and tomato plants seem to be doing fine. However my pepper plants seem to be dying. See attached photos.

Did you harden off your seedlings before planting them? Has your weather been unusually hot? Seedlings get "sunburn" from intense, hot sunshine especially while they are getting established. I think you seedlings will make it. If you can rig up some shade until they look better, they will appreciate it. I've used open cardboard boxes, old sheets, and paper leaf bags over a shovel to cast shade. Row cover or shade cloth are available for purchase. Because seedling roots don't go very deep yet, water your plants well several times each week. They will require less frequent watering later.
