What is Wrong with My Beets

What is wrong with my beets? When the leaves get desiccated, almost lace like? Seems like a fungal thing. Both my beets and chard leaves lose their color and moisture.

If the leaves are “lace-like” that suggest something that is eating the leaves, like beet armyworms. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/beets/beet-armyworm-control.htm ^[1]
