Q.What Is This White Coating On My Rose Shoots?

Zone London UK | Artistica_morena added on June 12, 2020 | Answered

I’ve recently bought a shrub rose which I’ve planted in a container. It all seems to be looking healthy apart from a white substance appearing on the stems and buds of the roses. It comes off when I wipe it with a tissue. Could anyone advise what this is and how to treat it please?

Thanks for sending the photos as they help us a bunch! Looks like you have some Powdery Mildew fungus attacking your new rosebush. You need to spray the rosebush with a fungicide that is listed for the control of powdery mildew. My favorite fungicide for spraying PM is either one called Green Cure or one called Milstop. Both will stop PM in its tracks.
