What Is This Tree

Question

I have this tree in my garden that has gotten really tall. I would like to know what it is and how I can prune it to a manageable size.

It looks like a rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) but they aren't usually that tall. It would look better if it were pruned about half its height.
