Q.What Is This Awful Virus On My Buddleia Please?

Zone berkshire uk | lynda flower-williams added on May 24, 2023 | Answered

this is wrecking my buddeia. I\’ve sprayed it with anti fungus and cut off all the diseased leaves but it is still going weird! It is also on a neighbour\’s buddleia and I am afraid it will spread to other shrubs. Is it mosaic virus, and if so, will I have to dig up and abandon the buddleia. (it is a small variety about four years old) thankyou for any help.

This is characteristic of Alfalfa Mosaic Virus. Unfortunately, there is no treatment and the infected plants must be destroyed. Here is an article that will go over some common plant diseases and their treatments:

that's so sad! thankyou very much for your speedy reply. the virus is on two buddleias, one has a massive stump and roots which go under my drive. Could I cut it right down, and treat it with 'Stump Out' ? When I remove the other buddleia can I plant again in the soil? thankyou.
