Q.What Is The White Color Climbing Up From The Bottom Of My Bamboo?
It does NOT look like bugs of any kind, but the culms are turning white at the bottom. The entire plant is about 6 years old nd 30 ft high. We have had to trim out the smaller culms to keep it from invading the neighbors yeard. We have also put the polypropelene plastic around 3 sides of the patch. The whitening just began but it moves quickly. I am giving it plenty of water, but it appears to be drying up. Is there anything I can do to save it?

Is the whiteness soft/fuzzy or is it coming from the interior of the stalk? If it's black bamboo and it's turning white, it could be that new branches are trying to replace the older ones, and the ones that are turning whitish are ready to be trimmed out.
