What is the sticky substance that the maple leaves are covered in? It’s on my car so I have to wash it frequently. We’ve lived in Bracebridge for 24 years and this hasn’t happened before.

The sticky substance is probably honeydew secreted by either aphids or scale. Here are some articles that discuss both:
