get rid of invasive snow on the mountain

What is the best way to get rid of invasive snow on the mountain? It has mutated to all green (it used to be variegated. This was there 30 years ago when we moved in, in variegated form, and had a controlled, slow spread. About 5 years ago it spread throughout the entire bed (about 6 ft x 40 ft) and is out of control. It has turned all green and it is mixed in with the roots of the hostas, solomon seal, iris, astilbe, etc. Pulling it does not seem to help. Has anyone else dealt with this problem before? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

In some places, snow-on-the-mountain is classed as invasive, and now you know why. Have you tried a glyphosate herbicide, such as Round Up? Start by cutting down the big plants, leaving trunks 6 — 8″ tall. Drill holes 1 – 2″ deep into these around the outer area of the trunks, and pour in straight herbicide or stump killer. Then using your herbicide as a spray, douse all the leaves of the little shoots. If you have other plants around the invasive shoots that you don’t want to get herbicide on, you can use a paint brush to apply herbicide only to the target leaves. It may take awhile, and you’ll need to watch and reapply herbicide onto new leaves, but eventually the invaders should give up and call permanent retreat.
