What is is this plant with the strange roots?

These plants started popping up in my walkway shrubs. I’ve tried using several plant ID apps to no avail. If you know. I thank you in advance.

This appears to be related to ginger, whether it be a young ginger plant, or a wild inedible relative. This can be confirmed with a smell test. The root should smell astringent and similar to ginger. Thank you Bush Doctor.
This morning I woke up with the palm of my hand cut up, irritated and red.
I was more determined than ever to identify it.
So, I did a more extensive search and found out it is a Flame Lily.
Gloriosa superba. The whole plant is a skin irritant.
I appreciate your help.
Thank you.
