Q.What Has Taken My Sunflower Plants

Zone west Midlands | julienorthall68@gmail.com added on June 1, 2020 | Answered

I had two sunflower plants in a bucket in water waiting to be planted this morning, they have been taken leaving a trail of soil water and roots behind! we do have a lot of squirrels around our area, could they be responsible? I know they love the sunflower seeds and normally leave them to be devoured once they have flowered, this is the first time my plants have been taken.im just curious! thankyou.

They could be! Without catching the pest in the act, it can be hard to say for sure.

Since squirrels can pretty much get into anything, it might be best to keep plants awaiting transplant inside. There is hardly a way to keep them from your yard.
